    Joe,
I think videos are the way to go. I share that “wanna scream” feeling when it’s time to sit down and write an article.

I thought your content here was good, and covered the whole process. To take it to the next level, I think the video would benefit from some graphics, motion, or other elements to add interest.

And thank you for not making this one of those videos where you can’t see the progress bar or have any control over playback. I’m seeing more and more of those used in sales promotions, and I find them frustrating.

    Best,
    Doug

  2. Joe,

    1. I like the idea of creating a video or audio blog post. I’m part of the 20% or so of the population that processes audio info better than written material.

    2. I created several posts yesterday for my new website. I found that faster and more effective (I think) for posts in which I’m demonstrating things about living in or visiting Costa Rica. I also created a couple of posts in which I shared more about me…to help build relationships with my visitors.

    3. It seemed to me that your video contained too much content for me to just watch the chunks of text and listen to the audio on your video. For example, you started by saying you were going to share 8 different ways to use Twitter for a product launch.

For me, that’s far too many items to keep in mind and remember. At the end of the video, I wished I had the text of what you had said. Because not only did you talk about 8 different methods, you shared details on some of them. Seems like I’d need to go back and take notes to get the full benefit out of your video post. That seems to make it easier for you, but creates more work for some of your visitors. I’m just giving you my opinion, as you asked. Others may think and feel very differently about this video.

    4. Question: What did you use to create the text in your video? And about how long did it take you to create the entire post?

Congrats on trying a new medium for posts. I’ll be following your site to see how you use audio and video posts.

    Thanks Doug for the comments.

It’s funny you mention about the progress bar and controls. I did a sales letter video that way and did get complaints.

    Thanks again.

    Hi Phil..

    Great to hear from you.

Great points you made I appreciate them. I go all ways as far as learning styles.

If it is a step by step with specifics I like videos or screen shots and instructions. If it general info I like audio or written.

I often takes notes on things to. I find that I start listening to at least 1 time and if its good info I will go back and listen again and take notes.

I did the text as a callout i camtasia. And I am not sure on the time frame. There was a lot of experimenting involved. I can see doing it in powerpoint or OpenOffice PPT and not taking no more than say 15-30 minutes from start to finish.

Next time I will try and knock out 2 or 3 at one time and see how that works.

Thanks again for taking the time to comment.

  7. Hey Joe,

I guess I am a visual person when it comes to “reading” blogs. While I found the video informative it did not allow me to “skim and learn” which is faster for me than listening/watching the video. Perhaps you need video/audio for background listening and then a text outline for us skim readers ( I am sure you had an outline anyway to create the video).

    Food for thought!

    Terry
